Having a baby is absolutely an occasion that should be celebrated. Growing your family is an exciting time, and let’s face it— who doesn’t want an excuse to party with your loved ones? That said, while having your baby shower at home can be economical, it’s also a lot of work. You have to clean the house and prepare the food, and no matter how much they love you, your guests will inevitably judge your interior design. If you’re throwing a party anyway, you might as well go big. Here are my recommendations for baby shower venues in Boston as a Boston maternity photographer.

Hampshire House

84 Beacon St, Boston MA, 02108

You’re making personal history, so why not host your baby shower at The Hampshire House venue in Boston? Located in the heart of Boston’s Beacon Hill, this multi-story Bostonian mansion combines classic luxury with historic appeal. Hampshire House can make an event as intimate or grand as you want it; be it brunch, high tea, or a luncheon, all of their baby showers will feature Hampshire House’s signature delectable cuisine and attentive service. Their second-floor space, including the Library and Baker Bar, can seat 100 for a plated meal or 200 for a reception-style event, while the third floor, which holds the Thayer, Abbot, and Codman rooms, seats 60 guests or hosts 100. Hampshire House is fully wheelchair accessible.

The State Room

60 State St, Boston, MA, 02109

Get a taste of the high life at The State Room. This venue sits atop an iconic piece of Boston’s skyline. The State Room features 270-degree cityscape views for an urban chic baby shower to remember. If you want to invite everyone you know to celebrate with you, The State Room has that covered: they can accommodate up to 900 guests for a sit-down dinner. For families wanting a more intimate affair, the venue’s smaller spaces may appeal. Harborside 1 + 2 remain 33 stories high but feature two smaller salons connected by a retractable wall. Cityside offers a marble-paneled, open floor plan that seats just 120 for dinner. As a Longwood venue, The State Room benefits from access to their capable planners and delicious menus.

The Tower

101 Arlington St, Boston MA, 02116

With its unique castle-like exterior, The Tower baby shower venue promises to be the perfect Boston location to herald the arrival of your next little royal. Each floor features a different timeless venue, and, as a Longwood venue, will be amply stocked with the finest foods and drinks. The 1st Floor Lounge 1887 is opulent and historic, featuring a high-beamed ceiling and catwalk accentuated by beautiful ironwork. It can fit 250 guests total and seats 130.

On the 3rd floor, the Green Room’s sumptuous verdant walls promote an air of sophistication and intrigue in this intimate space. The Green Room will hold 300 guests but seats a maximum of 180. Lastly, the 4th Floor Library combines the natural light streaming through its many windows with the erudite elegance of a room surrounded by books. The Library is the venue’s smallest room, seating only 50 people on its own, though it can be combined with The Tower’s other floors.

Boston Public Library

Multiple Locations in Boston

As someone married to a poet and publisher, I naturally find this venue to be one of my favorites! While the Boston Public Library provides excellent service year-round, the organization has far more to offer than its books and educational programs. Support the Boston Library by hosting your baby shower in one of their two gorgeous venues: the McKim Building or the Boylston Street Building.

Built in 1895 in the Renaissance Revival style, the McKim building is the epitome of opulence. It offers numerous spaces for you to host your shower, including the grand Guastavino Room, its beautiful courtyard, the Map Room Tea Lounge, the Courtyard Tea Room, the Chavannes Gallery, or the muralled Abbey Room. You can even host your shower in Bates Hall, Boston’s famous barrel-vaulted library hall! For families wanting something a little more modern, the Boylston Street Building will be perfect. Its chic, cosmopolitan hall can feature up to 1,300 guests for a standing reception.

Harvard Club Of Boston

374 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA, 02215

For families wanting to show a little bit of school spirit, The Harvard Club of Boston will be the perfect baby shower venue for you. The Harvard Club offers many distinct locations, all of which can take advantage of the club’s catering services. Harvard Hall is the club’s largest and most impressive room: paneled wood wainscotting and ceiling tiles meld perfectly with luxurious chandeliers and stone columns to create a historic and breathtaking atmosphere. Harvard Hall can seat 250 guests for a banquet or 220 for a dinner and dance. The Harvard Hall Foyer, however, can host 80 for an intimate reception amongst its wood staircases and beautiful carpeting. The President’s Room offers a small but stately venue for your shower. It can fit just 40 guests for a meal.

If the ambiance of dark wood isn’t quite your style, consider the Harvard Club’s second floor. The Massachusetts Room’s black and white marble flooring and soaring walls make for an inviting mid-sized venue, while the sumptuous burgundy hues of the Massachusetts Foyer would also make for an enchanting smaller reception. The Aesculapian Room’s wide windows, blue walls, striking red carpeting, and historic portraits provide a wonderful nod to Harvard’s history. The Gardener Room is the club’s smallest venue, seating just 20 amongst its beautiful cream walls and silver trimmings.

Warehouse XI

11 Sanborn Ct, Somerville MA, 02143

Upscale doesn’t necessarily have to mean old and over the top. Warehouse XI is a vibrant, industrial-chic venue right in the heart of Union Square. Regularly hosting events from weddings to local workshops, Warehouse XI’s white brick walls and black concrete floors provide a minimalistic canvas for you to arrange the baby shower of your dreams. The venue’s wide windows let in lots of light and look out upon the abundant greenery outside. They also provide a vast, customizable list of local vendors for you to choose from. Warehouse XI can fit up to 150 guests.
